Google states its goal will be to "combine its translation tool with image analysis, allowing a person to, say, take a cellphone photo of a menu in German and get an instant English translation."

That means, before long, no more expensive OCR software either. And before any translation group gets off the ground, I'm willing to bet that by the end of the year, you can take the existing scans of the Hasegawa or Kajishima Novels/Doujin floating around - and get a moderately good translation for nothing. If the groups feel like it, they can probably polish the translation in 1/10 of the time.
